Malayalam actors Biju Menon and Manju Warrier’s Lalitham Sundaram has a lot going for it – it marks the collaboration between the two stars after decades, the film is the directorial debut of Madhu Wariar and it’s also a feel-good family entertainer, a genre that the two actors have mastered over the years.

While the film has opted for a direct-to-OTT release, what gives the makers confidence is that it’s again a genre that can be enjoyed by the audience in the platform – as proved by recent Malayalam films such as #Home, Sara’s and Madhuram.

What is Lalitham Sundaram about?

The movie revolves around a family. Biju and Manju's characters are constantly at each other’s throats but carry on their relationship. Anu Mohan, Deepti Sati, Saiju Kurup and Raghunath Paleri play the other important members of the cast of the film, scripted by its director Madhu.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Madhu said that he had first pitched the script to Biju five years ago, but due to several reasons, it got pushed, allowing him time to refine the story and its characters. Manju came onboard as a producer after reading its completed script, he said.

“If you look at movies like #Home or Sara’s, it was a breath of fresh air. I think people want to see a feel-good movie once in a while. So, I believe the viewers will watch our movie and leave with a smile on their faces,” said Madhu.

Manju Warrier last week confirmed that the movie will release directly on Disney+ Hotstar, marking her OTT debut. The film will be streaming on the platform from March 18. This is the streaming service’s fourth consecutive Malayalam release of the same genre after Nivin Pauly’s Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham, Dileep’s Kesu Ee Veedinte Nadhan and Mohanlal’s Bro Daddy.
