Laal Singh Chaddha's opening-day revenue of Rs 11.50 crore nett is significantly less than the movie's expectations. But this is also because those expectations were not based on the movie's trailer but rather on the fact that Aamir Khan is a star who excels in this genre and makes feel-good slice-of-life movies.

As per Box Office India, the Delhi NCR and East Punjab belt have seen the most success for the movie. The box office results in Delhi, Noida, and Gurgaon are good, as well as in Punjab, but given that the movie is almost entirely in Punjabi, Punjab should have seen better results.

The South's box office performance is likewise respectable, but given that it stars Aamir Khan, it ought to have performed better. Along with Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan is the biggest Hindi star in the South, but the movie hasn't exactly performed well there.

Outside of a few upscale cinemas in Mumbai and Pune, the remainder are essentially indigent. Due to the Raksha Bandhan holiday, the meagre collections that have accrued in bulk pockets will cease, leaving the movie dependent on the metros. The fact that the movie has done better than 83 in mass pockets is because of the holiday.

The trading website also reported earlier that Laal Singh Chaddha's first day had a low of Rs 10–11 crore nett, but following a surge in the afternoon, it managed to climb into double digits and will just about. The number is undoubtedly low because the movie opened on a holiday, even though it was a small holiday, but in the current climate, it is unrealistic to anticipate strong opening weekends for films that do not appeal to the youth or the general public.

The statistics will shock the industry, but there may be more shocks to come before movies are made specifically for the audience that will be in theatres. The disappointment is that despite having a better cast and more holiday support than 83, which was released on Christmas Eve and did not perform as well at the box office as Raksha Bandhan, the movie is in the same box office range as the Christmas release 83.

Laal Singh Chaddha is directed by Advait Chandan and written by Atul Kulkarni. The film also features Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh in pivotal roles.
