L2 Empuraan, the sequel to the 2019-released blockbuster Lucifer, is one of the most awaited projects of Malayalam cinema. The mass action thriller, that marks multi-faceted talent Prithviraj Sukumaran’s third outing as a filmmaker, started rolling in October, this year after multiple delays. Mohanlal is returning as Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab’Ram in the project, which is getting made in a bigger scale compared to the first installment in the franchise.

Recently, cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev, who reunites with Prithviraj Sukumaran for L2 Empuraan, took to his official Instagram handle and dropped an exciting update on the project. The director of photography confirmed that the filmmaker and his team have finally wrapped up the foreign location hunt for the Mohanlal starrer, which began in Europe a couple of weeks back, and ended at the New York City.
“L2 - E M P U R A A N… It was a recce wrap. Finished the foreign location scouting … of EMPURAAN. It was a great trip with the Captain of the ship @therealprithvi and the whole sensible, sensitive, relentless crew. It was Fun and Fruitful too… Long Way to Go,” wrote Sujith Vaassudev, as he dropped a group picture with the filmmaker and the other cast and crew members.
L2 Empuraan: All you need to know
The project, which marks Prithviraj Sukumaran’s third onscreen collaboration with superstar Mohanlal, is touted to be both a prequel and sequel to Lucifer. According to writer Murali Gopy, L2 Empuraan explores Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab’Ram’s journey before PK Ramdas’s murder, and the incidents that follows after the ending of Lucifer. For the uninitiated, the Lucifer franchise was planned a trilogy right from the beginning, and L2 Empuraan will be followed by a third installment soon.
Along with Mohanlal, the project features a stellar star cast including Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Sai Kumar, Baiju Santhosh, and many others, along with an additional cast that reportedly includes many popular actors including Kaithi fame Arjun Das. The project, which is jointly bankrolled by Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions, is expected to hit the screens by the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.
