L2 Empuraan, the much-anticipated second instalment in the Lucifer trilogy, finally hit theatres on Thursday. The film features actor Mohanlal in the lead role, and is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. While we had earlier reported that the film has already entered the Rs 100 crore-club worldwide, the domestic box office Empuraan stands at Rs 50 crore in all languages, at the end of three days of theatrical run.

The film features actor Mohanlal in the lead role, and is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. While we had earlier reported that the film has already entered the Rs 100 crore-club worldwide, the domestic box office Empuraan stands at Rs 50 crore in all languages.
The makers have already claimed that L2 Empuraan has crossed the 100-crore mark worldwide on its second day. With the Eid weekend to be longer, the turnout is expected to be more, despite the film opening to mixed reviews.
Upon the release of Empuraan, the film stirred controversy on social media with netizens divided over certain portions in the film which showed riots and violence in Gujarat, prompting right-wing political groups raising objections. This has resulted in the makers doing 17 modifications on the film. The edited version of Empuraan is expected to hit big screens from next week onwards. On has to wait and watch if the modifications will help the film or break it.
Penned by Murali Gopi, L2 Empuraan is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and produced by Aashirvad Cinemas. The film features an ensemble star cast, including Mohanlal, Prithviraj, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Kishore, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and others. Mohanlal’s son and actor Pranav, plays the younger version of the protagonist.
The action thriller has music by Deepak Dev, and is shot by cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev. Akhilesh Mohan is the editor. Details on the third part are yet to be revealed by the makers.
