Debutant filmmaker Kurukkan was a special film for the Sreenivasan family. Not only did it mark the team up of father and son duo Sreenivasan and Vineeth after a gap, it also marked the comeback of the popular veteran actor after a hiatus.
None was more thrilled about sharing screen space with Sreenivasan than his own son Vineeth, who incidentally is also working with him again in M Mohanan’s Oru Jathi Jathakam . Vineeth and Sreenivasan had previously shared screen space in movies such as Oru Makante Achan and Aravindante Adithikal.
Vineeth Sreenivasan: My father loves comedy genre the most
Kurukkan, which released in theatres in July, was an investigative comedy that had Vineeth play a publicity-hungry cop while Sreenivasan essayed the role of a false eye witness. The movie had the younger actor play one of his most over-the-top characters since Ravi Padmanabhan in Thaneer Mathan Dinangal.

But Vineeth, in a recent interview with OTTplay, said that he was happy that his father could make his comeback to films in a genre that the audience most relate to him. “I have felt that the genre that my father enjoys the most is also humour,” he said.
The actor explained that though the audience has seen him do emotional roles in movies such as Katha Parayumbol and Chinthavishtayaaya Shyamala, the first movies of his that they hark back to when they think of him are his comedy roles. “Kurukkan is a movie where you don’t really have to employ logic and I think he enjoys that,” said the actor.

Though Kurukkan, which also has Shine Tom Chacko in a leading role, failed to create waves at the box office, the movie is now gearing up for its OTT release. Kurukkan is set to release on Manorama Max on August 25.
Meanwhile, Vineeth is set to take a break from films after Oru Jathi Jathakam to begin work on his directorial – Varshangalkku Shesham, which also has Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Nivin Pauly.
