The theatres in Kerala are expected to reopen by the end of the month if the pandemic situation eases in the state. Theatre owners and filmmakers across the state are hopeful that the proposed reopening of cinema halls will proceed as expected. But with the rumours of a third wave still hanging in the air, it remains to be seen how everything will unfold with regards to upcoming releases.
Who are the filmmakers of Kunjeldho?
The film will be the directorial debut for Mathukutty. A former radio jockey and TV host, Mathukutty has worked in the Malayalam film industry as a screenwriter and actor. He has played several minor roles in films and has also lent his voice as a dubbing artist. The script for Kunjeldho is also penned by Mathukutty.
The film is produced by Little Big Film with Suvin K Varkey and Prasobh Krishna serving as executive producers. Renowned composer, Shaan Rahman, is in charge of the music department, who has previously worked on successful projects such as Take Off and Ohm Shanthi Oshaana. A relative newcomer to the field, Swaroop Philip, has been given the responsibility of the cinematographer in the film.
Who are the actors in the film?
The primary protagonist will be Asif Ali, who will portray the titular character Kunjeldho. It will be the debut for Gopika Udayan who will play the female lead. Vineeth Srinivasan, who is said to be involved with the creative, will also play an important role in the film. Srinivasan, an accomplished director, writer, and singer, is undoubtedly an asset to the project. Some of the other important roles are played by veteran actors Siddique and Rekha. Details about their characters are yet to be revealed, but if the music video of the film is any indicator, then Siddique could be playing the role of a teacher.
What is the film about?
The film is expected to be a light-hearted family comedy-drama, set in an educational institution or two, based on the various music videos released.
When and where to watch it?
Kunjeldho was originally set for a release on August 27 earlier this year, but the second wave of the pandemic and the ensuing lockdown measures have led to the delay in its release. There is a hope that the film will be released before Christmas this year. However, the situation can definitely change depending on how the pandemic will evolve in the coming months. Like most films struggling to fix on a release window, Kunjeldho could be shifted for an OTT release too. There is no official confirmation as of yet. The project is among the several Asif Ali films expected to release soon including Kuttavum Sikshayum and Ellam Sheriyakum.
