Malayalam audience who were waiting for Kunchacko Boban's Chaaver to hit theatres, might now have wait a week more, as per reports. The film, which was scheduled to hit the big screen on September 28, has now reportedly deferred its release date.
The decision to defer the release was apparently made after several theatres had already begun the bookings. With Chaaver pushing its release, Mammootty starrer Kannur Squad might have an advantage at the Kerala box office that will also see Tamil films like Iraivan and Chandramukhi 2 releasing on the same day.
While the reason for delay is yet to be revealed, with the film being submitted to the CBFC today, reports suggest that the cuts suggested could be have forced the makers to push the movie’s theatrical release.
It is not the first time that the release of Chaaver has been postponed. There were rumours that the film would be released during Onam, but that too did not happen, as the team had to work on the VFX portions during its post-production.
Joy Mathew joins hands with Tinu Pappachan for Chaaver
Chaaver is the third directorial of Tinu Pappachan, known for his fast-paced action films like Ajagajantharam and Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil. Written by Joy Mathew, who is known for tackling political and social themes in his scripts, Chaaver's trailer promises a thrilling combination of political drama and action. While Joy's previous works, such as Shutter and Uncle, were strong in themes but lacked intense action and quick pacing, the collaboration with Tinu is sure to pique the interest of viewers.

Kunchacko is set to play one of the most intense characters of his career, as hinted by the trailer and posters. Antony Varghese, famous for his action-packed roles, will be taking a break from action in the upcoming film Chaaver. According to the makers and Antony, the film will feature him in a role he has never played before. The movie will also feature Arjun Ashokan, Manoj KU and Sajin Gopu in significant roles.
Justin Varghese known for his work in Fahadh Faasil's Joji, has handled the music. Jinto George who lensed Tinu's previous film Ajagajantharam, does the cinematography of Chaaver, while Nishadh Yusuf takes care of the editing.

Sony LIV has bagged the OTT rights of Chaaver and the film is expected to drop on the platform within four or five weeks after its theatrical release.
