Soon after director Senna Hegde's eagerly anticipated film Padmini was released in theatres, the team found itself embroiled in controversy . Producer Suvin K Varkey alleged that lead actor Kunchacko Boban did not partake in the promotional activities for the film and chose to go on a holiday to London instead.

This was back in July 2023, and Kunchacko has remained mum on the issue. The actor has finally broken his silence and responded to the accusations in a recent interview.

Kunchacko Boban reacts to the controversy

Speaking to The Fourth Channel, Kunchacko said that he was down with H1N1 fever during the Padmini promotions and that he had to fulfil some prior commitments in London.

"I think the issue was solved after the producer's association got involved. The lead actor benefits from the success of a film, so no actor will choose to stay away from promoting his film," Kunchacko said in the interview.

The actor reiterated that he has been in the film business for 25 years now and called people who think he doesn't know the importance of promoting a film "fools".

Kunchacko said that he doesn't consider this a controversy, adding that he even took the initiative to sing a song in Padmini for the first time in his career as part of the promotions.

"I have played my part in that film and have no regrets about anything. I believe that good deeds will always give you good results," Kunchacko said.

The Padmini controversy

Padmini, directed by Senna Hegde, is a comedy entertainer that showcases Kunchacko's romantic side in a way that is reminiscent of his classic roles. The film was released in theatres on July 14, 2023, and received positive reviews. However, following the release, the producer accused Kunchacko of not promoting the movie despite receiving a compensation of Rs 2.5 crore for the film.

In a Facebook post, Suvin K Varkey said that it is important for actors to fulfil their responsibilities by promoting their work and not taking their audience for granted.

Kunchacko Boban to be seen next in Chaaver

Chaaver is the upcoming release of Kunchacko in theatres. The film, helmed by Tinu Pappachan, is a political drama scripted by Joy Mathew. Chaaver also stars Arjun Ashokan, Antony Varghese, and Manoj KU in pivotal roles. The film is slated to be released in theatres on September 21.
