One actor who has been making the right noise in Kannada of late is Naveen Shankar. The actor, who began the year as part of Hondisi Bareyiri’s ensemble cast, followed that up with a widely-appreciated antagonist role in Daali Dhananjaya’s Gurudev Hoysala and his next, in which he is the protagonist, seems even more interesting as far as his choice of subjects goes.
Set in North Karnataka, Kshetrapati, is Naveen’s next release, which is expected in theatres sometime in July. The film is the debut vehicle of engineer-turned-filmmaker Srikant Katagi and tackles the agrarian crisis. Naveen is paired with his Hondisi Bareyiri co-star Archana Jois yet again. This time around, she plays a journalist in the film. Kshetrapati, according to the filmmaker is a Sanskrit word that means farmer. Naveen plays the role of an engineer working in Bengaluru who feels compelled to leave his plush life behind so as to address the issues faced back home by farmers. With his father in the film, too, being a farmer, Naveen's central character battles those personal stakes as he tries to become the voice of the cause.
The film has music by Ravi Basrur, while YBV Shiva Sagar fills in as cinematographer. Last evening, the first teaser of the film was released, the compelling content of which has netizens raving about how good Naveen’s role and characterisation is and that he is, undoubtedly, a talent to look out for. Some of the comments that popped up on social media after the teaser came were about it being “benki” or “lit”, while others, added, “Finally we are seeing a strong hero material from norther part of karunadu”, “@Nwinshankar always delivers the best 🙏 . Teaser looks fabulous. Looking at the casting , can surmise intense performances. Plot seems to be riveting , loved the rustic outlook. Eagerly waiting for it”, “Benki, Mast bandada”, among others.
The team is yet to announce a release date, but rest assured, the Kshetrapati teaser has grabbed eyeballs and how!
