One among the Kannada films that is releasing in theatres on July 28 is director Shashank’s Kousalya Supraja Rama, which he has co-produced along with actor-politician BC Patil. Led by Darling Krishna on the cast, the film also stars Premam Poojyam fame Brinda Acharya, Milana Nagaraj, Sudha Belawadi, Nagabhushana and Rangayana Raghu, among others. The film is an Arjun Janya musical, with most of the songs that have been released already being well received, especially the Shivani song.

In all his media interactions prior to the film’s release, Shashank has been bullish that Kousalya Supraja Rama is his best work to date. Such is his confidence in the content of the film and that audiences will like what he’s presenting, that he began having paid premieres as early as Tuesday (July 25). Shashank held a show in Bengaluru and followed that up with one in Mysuru a day later. Today, July 27, he’s got multiple shows in Bengaluru, including one for friends from the industry.

But what is his release strategy for Kousalya Supraja Rama? “We are targeting around 200 screens across Karnataka. The final count of shows will become clear only once multiplexes reveal their schedules, based on films that are being retained for another week and the new titles releasing on July 28,” he told OTTplay.

Will the film release in other states? “The hope is to be able to get 1-2 screens in a few states and release Kousalya Supraja Rama in Kannada, but confirmation on this is still pending. We are trying for Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai, at the moment. A week later, on August 4, the film will release in the US and Canada,” Shashank adds.

Kousalya Supraja Rama is a tale that centres on the topic of male chauvinism and explores how the protagonist goes from being an arrogant, egoistical man to understanding what it really means to be a man, based on the perspective of the women in his life, especially his mother, Kousalya.
