Kousalya Supraja Rama is Kannada filmmaker Shashank’s 10th film, but he’s never before been as bullish as he is now about the quality of the movie, even going to the extend of calling it his best to date. In all his promotional speeches so far, Shashank has been very vocal about how confident the whole team is in the content of the film and that more than their promotions, the movie should do the talking.

Such is his belief in the strength of the film that Shashank, who has co-produced Kousalya Supraja Rama had said last week that he was looking at having a few paid premieres to drum up positive word-of-mouth. At a promotional event, Shashank had said that he would start to have paid premieres as early as July 25 and true to his word, he has opened two shows tomorrow – one each in Bengaluru and Mysuru. To be held at 7 pm on July 25, the bookings for these shows will open at 12 noon.

Kousalya Supraja Rama has Darling Krishna in the lead, as Rama, an arrogant, self-centred guy with a massive male ego. Brought up to believe that women are inferior to men by his father Siddegowda (Rangayana Raghu), Rama follows his father’s word until Shivani (Brinda Acharya) comes into his life. The film, according to Shashank, is about a love story, but it is also just as much about the relationship between Rama and his mother Kousalya (Sudha Belawadi). “This is a film that explores what a real man should be like from the perspective of women,” Shashank had told us earlier. The film, an Arjun Janya musical, also has Milana Nagaraj, Nagabhushan and Achyuth Kumar in pivotal roles.

Coming only one week after Oppenheimer, Barbie and the Kannada hit Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare, Kousalya Supraja Rama will have competition not only from these biggies, but also Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, as well as the Kannada films Aachar & Co and Sheela.
