Kottukkaali – The Anna Ben-starrer wins big at Transilvania International Film Festival

The makers of the Tamil film Kottukkaali, also known as The Adamant Girl, have announced that the movie have bagged the special jury award in main competition at Transilvania International Film Festival. Anna Ben took to her social media handles to reveal this update.

“As artists, uncertainty is a huge part of this job and it is something I struggle with. For most parts I wait for things, calls emails, callbacks and whatnot! And when you begin to question your relevance something like this happens… A movie I did a year ago, a character I will always cherish,” she wrote on Instagram.

P S Vinothraj is the director of Kottukkaali, which stars Soori and Anna Ben in the lead parts. Anna Ben makes Tamil debut with this project. The director's critically acclaimed film Koozhangal, which won the Tiger Award at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam, was released prior to this.

The movie was bankrolled by actor Sivakarthikeyan, under the banner of Sivakarthikeyan Productions. The director of Kottukkaali wrote the screenplay himself. The film's producers have not yet revealed the date of its theatrical release.

Teaser of Soori’s Kottukkaali

Kottukkaali's protagonist is a young woman who falls in a relationship with a man from a lower caste, but her family thinks she is been cast a spell and is possessed. 

In March of last year, the movie's first look teaser was made public. Despite repeated requests for her to get down from her reverie, Anna Ben's character is seen to be completely perplexed while sitting inside an autorickshaw. There is also a rooster perched on the vehicle's seat. Meanwhile, Soori is huffing and puffing while fixating on something. A person is seen ringing several bells at the beginning of the clip.

After seeing the teaser, fans are speculating that the story will be very different from Soori and Anna Ben's previous films, which has social media buzzing with excitement.
