In mid-April this year, journalist-turned TV honcho Parameshwar Gundkal showed the world a first glimpse of his debut directorial, Kotee. Led by Daali Dhananjaya, this action-oriented family entertainer, the teaser had netizens going ga-ga, declaring that the actor, who is loved for his common man portrayals, is back with a bang. Ramesh Indira as the film’s villain Dinoo Saavkaar was also a high point, they reckoned.

With just over a week to go for the film’s theatrical outing, Parameshwar dropped the trailer, and the response is pretty much the same. The debutant filmmaker is no stranger to Kannada audiences. A former print media journalist, Param, as he is known, was the business head of a general entertainment channel for the longest time, during whose stint the Kannada version of Bigg Boss was launched and made into a huge success.

Given that Kotee is Param’s directorial, expectations are high, that it will be content-driven and, therefore, the perfect vehicle for Dhananjaya. The film, reckon netizens, will be the perfect comeback for Dhananjaya, who despite his best efforts to give audiences variety in terms of stories and characters, has not been getting the success he has been aiming for.

As much as netizens are loving Dhananjaya in the film, and making promises on social media that they will watch Kotee in theatres, they are also super impressed with Ramesh Indira as the primary antagonist Dinoo Saavkaar. The Premier Padmini filmmaker made a mark as the villain in Rakshit Shetty’s Sapta Sagaradaache Ello and audiences are intrigued to see what he does as Saavkaar.

Meanwhile Kotee is one of 4 Kannada films in theatres next week. There’s also Chef Chidambara, Shivamma and LoveLi, with KRG Studios distributing 3 out of the four in theatres.
