Kolla release date: When, where to watch Rajisha Vijayan, Priya Varrier’s rural heist thriller

Heist thrillers are a rarity in Malayalam cinema and director Anil Radhakrishnan Menon’s Sapthamashree Thaskara still ranks as one of the top movies of the genre in the language. Debutant filmmaker Suraj Varma’s upcoming movie Kolla could be another notable entry in that list.

The thriller, which is scripted by Jasim Jalal and Nelson Joseph and is based on a story by Bobby and Sanjay, has Rajisha Vijayan, Priya Prakash Varrier, Vinay Forrt, Shaan Rahman, Prem Prakash, Prashanth Alexander Jeo Baby and Shebin Benson.

What is Kolla’s story?

The movie revolves around two women – Annie and Shilpa – who come to reside in a village and start their own business. However, after a bank robbery, they soon become the suspects. Their past and the reason for the robbery form the plot of the movie, which has a host of newcomers as part of the crew.

During a promotional event of the film at Kochi, Rajisha, who plays Annie in the movie, said, “Even though there were a lot of newcomers and I was expecting confusion, this is one of the sets where people were clear about what to do. We shot the film completely at peace and with a lot of positivity. That energy was there throughout the movie.”

The actress also explained what attracted her to be part of such a thriller. “What excited me most about the film was that there were only a few Malayalam movies that revolved around heists happening in our villages. It's an engaging thriller and it has a relevant story that must be watched in theatres,” said the actress. Shaan, who plays a police officer in the film, has also composed the film’s songs and background score.

When and where to watch Kolla?

Kolla is all set to release in theatres on June 9 along with Ranjan Pramod’s O Baby, which has Dileesh Pothan in the lead.
