Debutant filmmaker Abhilash Shetty is bringing his film, Koli Taal, to theatres. The film, which has done the rounds of prestigious film festivals across the country and the globe, will release in select movie halls in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Udupi and Shivamogga. Ahead of the film’s theatrical outing, today, Abhilash released the trailer.

The film follows a simple story, which, Abhilash has been quoted as saying is inspired by his own experience of visiting his grandparents during his school days. Koli Taal is about an elderly couple, Mahabala Shetty (Prabhakar Kunder) and Vanaja (Radha Ramachander), who live on their farm in a quaint village in Karnataka. Their everyday routines revolve around the house and the farm; duties divided, with Vanaja running the household, while Mahabala oversees the farm. When their grandson Sumanth (Abhilash Shetty) announces a quick trip to meet them after almost three years away in Delhi, Mahabala and Vanaja are thrilled to bits and decide to treat him with Koli Taal (chicken curry) made with one of the best roosters in their possession. When the time comes to ‘sacrifice’ the rooster, though, it goes missing, presumably stolen. They could make do with a couple of hens instead, but Mahabala is determined to find the rooster and make sure his grandson gets Koli Taal. And then begins the case of the missing rooster, with Mahabala putting on his detective’s hat.

Abhilash’s film is also a beautiful representation of life in a quaint village in the western ghat region of Karnataka. When the film was still doing the festival rounds, Abhilash had said that he would ensure that it also gets a theatrical outing, irrespective of how limited it is. The plan, thereafter, he had said, was to get it on to an OTT platform to give Koli Taal a wider audience.
