History wasn't just served; it was sipped on Koffee With Karan this week. Neetu Singh and Zeenat Aman, veterans who witnessed Bollywood bloom, spilled some beans about some untold tales of their journey. Through their laughter and tears, a bygone era unfolded, painted with timeless charm and the secrets of a golden friendship. It brought back all the good memories of that special time in Bollywood, and everyone watching wished they could see more of it.
Zeenat Aman's revelation
Zeenat Aman talked about how she got her famous role as Roopa in the movie Satyam Shivam Sundaram. It turns out she wasn't the first choice for the part! She shared that director Raj Kapoor was really excited about the movie and kept on mentioning it while filming another movie, Vakil Babu, with brother Shashi Kapoor. This caught Zeenat's attention, and she decided to try out for the role.
What did Zeenat Aman say?
“I didn't think that he would even think of casting me in this kind (Roopa) of role. Because she is the daughter of a priest. One day we were shooting at Esel Studios, which is on the road to RK (R.K. Studios). After packing up, I just dressed myself up, in my version of what I thought he (Raj Kapoor) would think of Roopa," Zeenat Aman shared.
“With tissue paper stuck on my face. And make-up, and choti (braid), and ghagra-choli. Then I went to RK Studios. He had this man on Friday, John, and then I said, 'John, please tell sir that Roopa has come’. So he said, ‘Roopa? Who is Roopa?’. Then he (Raj Kapoor) called me inside his cottage, and I went; then he was really godsmacked.” Zeenat Aman further continued.
Raj Kapoor's comment on Zeenat Aman
The 72-year-old veteran also shared that Raj Kapoor’s wife, Krishna Kapoor, later gave her some gold guineas and told her that this was her signing amount. She further shared that Raj Kapoor told Krishna Ji that Zeenat Aman is a huge star, and she did not need to do that. Her passion made him sign her Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
