Investigative thriller is a genre that garners a lot of attention from the audience. Kirkkan, Malayalam cinema’s latest offering in this genre, is set to hit the theatres on July 21. The first-look posters of the movie featured the actors donning police uniforms. Now, the makers have released the trailer of the film, promising an engaging investigative thriller. The fast-paced trailer is full of suspense and intrigue.

The plot revolves around the death of a young girl, and the investigation that follows. The character of Anarkali Marikar is shown hanging from a tree, and her death is investigated by the police amid several conspiracy theories. The trailer gives an immersive experience to the viewers, as they try to piece together the clues alongside the investigators. With the tagline, ‘Police station is not a dreadful place as you think of it to be’, the movie is set predominantly within the walls of a single police station.

Helmed by the debutant director Josh, the film features Kani Kusruti in a lead role. The first-look poster featured her donning a police uniform, with a curious expression on her face. Along with her, Johny Antony and Vijayaraghavan are also roped in to play the characters of cops. Meanwhile, actors Maqbool Salmaan, Appani Sarath and Salim Kumar are also playing key roles in the thriller drama. It looks like Salim will be essaying a serious role in the movie. The trailer shows the actor in two characters - one as a rugged police officer and the other as a weak person.

Mathew Mampra, of Mampra Cinemas, is supporting Kirkkan. Gowtham Lenin is handling the camerawork, while the music is composed by Manikandan Ayyappa. Edited by Rohit VS Variyath, the film will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, besides Malayalam.

Kani is best known for her work in Marathi, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi films. She rose to fame with her performance in the anthology film, Kerala Cafe. For her recent film Biriyaani, she won the ‘Best Actress’ title in Kerala State Awards. In the film, she played the role of a Muslim woman, who becomes a victim of patriarchy and fanatical religious customs. Her previous films include Vichithram and Nishiddho.
