Be it Hritik Roshan and Sussane Khan or Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan, one can find many examples of amicable splits and even better and more cordial post-divorce equations in Tinsel Town.
Aamir Khan and his ex-wife , director Kiran Rao, are one such pair. Not only do they get along well, but Kirna is also friendly with Reena Dutta, the actor's first wife. This unconventional modern family dynamic has intrigued their fans time and again. Kiran talked about her bond with Reena, among other things, in a recent interview with Film Companion.
Speaking about this unusual family bond, Kiran said that she’d be happy to share tips about modern families looking for those who want it. It is a well-known fact that both of Aamir’s former wives, Reena and Kiran, share a close bond with the maverick actor and live in the same apartment complex. Kiran made a joke when interviewer Anupama Chopra discussed how people are curious about the filmmaker's personal life and mentioned that anytime she goes out with Reena, the cameras go crazy snapping them. They have no interest in Aamir and focus extensively on capturing the two ladies together.

Kiran said, “Reena and I are always like, ‘Okay, we will smile together just because we are friends.'” She added that people tend to make big deals out of it for no reason. However, she said she is happy about the tag 'modern family' or 'family 2.0'.
Kiran also seemed supportive of this idea for more people. She pointed out that she's all for being the poster girl for a modern, inclusive family.

On her bond with Aamir, Kiran said that they have always encouraged each other to be open and “normalise unusual life choices”. A case in point is being open about the fact that their son Azad was born through surrogacy. She also said that despite their divorce, she is still very close to Aamir and that this can seem odd to the public. “You see other ex-couples being cordial and nice, but it isn’t that often that people are close. Aamir and I also work together. We live in the same building. His family is more mine than his in some ways, so I guess that is unusual.”
Aamir and Kiran got married in 2005 and divorced in 2021. They are currently busy promoting Laapataa Ladies, their most recent movie, which Aamir is co-producing and Kiran has directed.
Between 1986 and 2002, Aamir was married to Reena. Together, they have a son named Junaid and a daughter named Ira. Ira tied the knot with her long-time beau, Nupur Shikhare, in January. The wedding saw Khan’s entire family, including his wives and kids, and the who’s who of the Hindi film industry, in attendance.
