The wait for King of Kotha’s theatrical release begins! And what better way to kick it off than by the release of the much-anticipated Onam movie by three stalwarts in South Indian cinema – Mohanlal, Suriya and Nagarjuna Akkineni. The trailer of the Dulquer Salmaan-starrer promises a gangster entertainer that is high on action and emotions.

The trailer of the film promises a riveting saga of the rise, fall and revenge of a gangster. It starts off by introducing Dulquer's character Raju, whose childhood dream had been to rule the town of Kotha - something that he accomplished with his bravado over the years. However, his love also seemed to have been his weakness and with enemies queuing up to bring the "king" down, his fall was imminent. The promo video also hints that his second coming, is venge-filled enough to pack action, emotions and a ton of 'mass' sequences that are expected to make the theatre-going crowds go wild when the movie releases on August 24.

King of Kotha, which is set in the 80s and 90s, marks the directorial debut of Abhilash Joshiy, son of superhit filmmaker Joshiy who has been elemental in making some of the biggest Malayalam stars including Mohanlal, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi into superstars. Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prasanna, Chemban Vinod Jose and Shabeer Kalarakkal are also part of the movie.

Abhilash, in an earlier interview with OTTplay, had said that he had toyed with the idea of starting his directorial career with any other genre apart from ‘mass’ action entertainer that his dad had aced due to the eventual comparisons between the two. Though he had bounced off several scripts with actors, he decided that this was indeed the way to go.

King of Kotha is scripted by Abhilash N Chandran, who had also written Joshiy’s Porinju Mariyam Jose. Both Abhilash Joshiy and Dulquer have been childhood friends and the movie is also produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films, making the collaboration even sweeter for the two.

Apart from the lead cast, the movie also has a host of actors including Shammi Thilakan, Suddhi Koppa and Shanthi Krishna in supporting roles. Nimish Ravi handles the cinematography of King of Kotha, which has songs and score by Jakes Bejoy. The climax of the movie was also reshot by Arvind Kashyap of Kantara fame, as Nimish by then was busy with Mammootty’s Bazooka.
