Actor Rana Daggubati has come out with a social media to issue a clarification over the alleged comments he made about Hindi film actress Sonam Kapoor. At the recently-held King of Kotha pre-release event in Hyderabad, Rana (along with Nani) was the evening's guest of honour with the core cast and crew of the film, including Dulquer Salmaan and Aishwarya Lekshmi, also in attendance.
Rana, known for his candour, would take the stage to express his excitement over seeing his close friend and colleague, Dulquer, in a full-blown action film like King of Kotha. He would also highlight the Malayalam actor's humbleness with the help of an interesting incident that occurred a few years ago on the sets of a Hindi film, involving Dulquer and a Hindi actress. Though Rana Daggubati refrained from naming the actress, one is led to believe that he was referring to Sonam Kapoor.
"Dulquer is a humble, genuinely good person"
Recalling a visit that he paid to the sets of a Hindi film that Dulquer was acting in, Rana spoke about how, despite having his patience and composure tested by his co-star during the shoot, the Malayalam actor just refused to lose his cool.
"The producers of that film are my friends so I chose to visit the sets one day. I spotted Dulquer and his spot boy from Kerala in a corner but the actress of the film (whom I would not name) was on her phone with her husband during the take. It turned out that she wasn't dealing with an important matter either - in fact, the husband was shopping in London and they were discussing that on the phone. She would later fumble with the lines, causing more retakes, but this man (Dulquer) kept his cool all throughout, giving as many takes as required. As a bystander to all this, I almost threw the bottle I held in hand in anger but Dulquer did not lose patience," said Rana Daggubati.
Of course, this speech of his would attract a lot of attention on the internet and soon enough, Sonam Kapoor's name came up with many opining that the film Rana referred to is Zoya Factor. And just as expected, the actress found a lot of negativity aimed at her by social media users.
"My heartfelt apologies to Sonam and Dulquer"
But Rana Daggubati would duly intervene and issue a proper clarification via social media and even apologised to Sonam Kapoor for the misunderstanding caused by his words. "As friends, we often exchange playful banter, and I deeply regret that my words have been misinterpreted," wrote the Rana Naidu actor in his post.
In turn, many lauded Rana for his gesture and for volunteering to take the blame, as it were, to fix the issue.
