Dulquer Salmaan’s gangster-actioner King of Kotha was the Malayalam superstar’s most expensive film in his career

Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salmaan’s latest gangster-actioner, which is helmed by Abhilash Joshiy, is gearing up for its OTT release after almost 30 days of its theatrical run. The film, which is also produced by the Sita Ramam star, was touted to be his most expensive movie till date.
Though King of Kotha didn’t quite set the box office on fire as was expected, the period movie, set in the 80s and 90s, managed to rake in over Rs 40 Cr from worldwide box office. The film’s satellite, digital and overseas rights were also sold for a record price.

When and where to watch King of Kotha on OTT?
Dulquer’s King of Kotha, which was rumoured to be a September 22 release on Disney+ Hotstar, will be releasing only in the final week of September. OTTplay has exclusively learnt from a senior official in Hotstar that the movie is currently set for a September 28 or September 29 release, based on the agreement between the film’s producers and the OTT platform. This would also ensure that the movie completed 34 days of theatrical run.
Dulquer shines as Raju Madrassi in King of Kotha
King of Kotha, which released in theatres worldwide in multiple languages, had become the highest opening-day grosser in Malayalam. The film, scripted by Abhilash N Chandran, has Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shabeer Kalarakkal, Gokul Suresh, Chemban Vinod Jose, Anikha Surendran, Shammi Thilakan and Prasanna in pivotal roles.
Dulquer essays the role of Raju, who rules the fictional town of Kotha in the movie. However, after a betrayal that he didn’t see coming and to shield someone he cares for, he leaves town. Years later, a police officer schemes to bring him back after his family is threatened by former friends-turned-foes, who now lord over Kotha. How will this change the dynamics of the town and its people?
