King of Kotha: Mammootty steps in to release teaser of Dulquer Salmaan, Abhilash Joshiy’s gangster actioner

It will be a mega treat from the megastar this Bakrid! While the team of King of Kotha had earlier revealed that the teasers of the Dulquer Salmaan-starrer will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada by Silambarasan, Mahesh Babu and Rakshit Shetty, the most-awaited Malayalam video will be unveiled online by Mammootty.

The makers took to their social media page to make the announcement. Till the pandemic, Mammootty has been tight-lipped, both in person as well as on social media, when it came to promoting Dulquer’s films. But that changed with Kurup in 2021, with Dulquer, himself, joking that he had borrowed his dad’s phone to post the updates on the film.

King of Kotha, which like Kurup is also produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films, is touted to be the young superstar’s biggest film yet and it is also special for the megastar as it would mark the directorial debut of friend and mentor Joshiy’s son Abhilash Joshiy.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Abhilash said that he and childhood friend Dulquer had discussed several subjects before landing on King of Kotha, which is scripted by Porinju Mariyam Joshiy writer Abhilash N Chandran.

“I love the ‘mass’ action genre but two years ago, I wanted to do something different,” he said, “This is because achan does films in this genre and he would tell me not to get typecast in a particular kind of film style from the beginning. That’s why I wanted to try different genres, but somehow it just wasn’t working out. That’s why I decided to go ahead with King of Kotha.”

The movie’s teaser will be revealed online by the superstars at 6pm on June 28. King of Kotha, which also has Aishwarya Lekshmi, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sudhi Koppa, Shammi Thilakan and Shabeer Kallarakkal, is set for an Onam release this year. It’s also one of the films tipped to beat 2018’s box office record that stands shy of Rs 180 crore.
