The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, is on the big screen, while Sector 36, featuring Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal, is streaming on Netflix. But if that dose of intense, dark content isn't enough for you, Lionsgate Play is about to give you one more option. According to the latest update, the streaming platform is set to bring back a Halle Berry starrer who isn’t in the superhero realm, though she still plays the hero. We’re talking about the 2017 release Kidnap.

Starring Halle Berry as a mother to a young boy, Kidnap, for the uninitiated, is about a tragic day at the park when Karla Dyson witnesses her son Frankie being kidnapped by an unknown group of abductors. With no time to call the cops or seek any help, she jumps into her car and follows the culprits. She must now fight them in a serious battle to save her son and survive. Lionsgate Play has released some of the most intriguing films over the past two months. The platform has delivered titles such as Room, Logan Lucky, The Arcadian, Replicas, Adrift, and The Iron Law. Before that, they released Dream Scenario, Copshop, BME, American Hustle, and more— all featuring big stars and powerful content. Kidnap now joins this list and is set to release on the streaming platform.
Directed by Luis Prieto and starring Halle Berry, Sage Correa, Chris McGinn, and others, Kidnap has been added to Lionsgate Play’s upcoming movie list. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, it’s expected to arrive on the platform in September. You’ll also be able to watch it with your OTTplay Premium subscription once it’s out.
Halle Berry on Choosing Kidnap
In a conversation with Ebony, Halle Berry spoke about signing up for Kidnap and how she felt about the role. “I wanted to tell this story because it’s about female empowerment. It’s the first movie under my production company, 606 Films,” she said. “That’s named after the 606 Senate bill that I got passed— the anti-paparazzi stalking law that protects my kids. It’s very much a company I want to use to empower women, women of color, and to tell stories that are meaningful to us. This script fits squarely into that philosophy.”
