Kiccha Sudeep’s 46th film, Max, was announced as a pan-India project, to be released in multiple languages. In fact, when producer Kalaippuli S Thanu and director Vijay Kartikeyaa joined Sudeep at the press briefing in Bengaluru on December 1 and declared that a film that will take the box office by storm is headed audience’s way, the assumption was that he had big plans for the simultaneous release in all languages.
Turns out, Thanu is only focusing on 3 versions now – Kannada, Tamil and Telugu – but even those are not releasing on the same day. The Kannada original of Max will be in theatres on December 25, as one of the Christmas releases along with Mohanlal’s Barroz and Varun Dhawan’s Baby John. The other two, will be out two days later on December 27 only. This, depending on the initial buzz about the film, could work either way for it.
Max has been censored U/A, the producer stated in a social media post that came late on December 13, where he also mentioned the staggered release plan. Sudeep fans were quick to pounce on to it and respond with queries about when offline promotions for the film would begin and if there was going to be a trailer launch after all.
So far, there’ve been a couple of teasers and a song and the last sneak peek was botched when a low-resolution version was leaked online, forcing the team to release it officially earlier than planned. Sudeep has begun doing promotional interviews with mainstream media, which should begin to drop in the coming days.
The film has Sudeep as a hot-headed cop called Arjun Mahakshay, who’s been given the moniker Max by gangsters who fear him. The story revolves around an incident that occurs on the night before Max is set to resume duty at his precinct after a suspension. The film also stars Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sunil, Pramod Shetty, Samyukta Hornad, Sudha Belawadi, Ugramm Manju, among others.
