After a film like Vikrant Rona, which was done during the pandemic amid umpteen uncertainties and required world building, Kiccha Sudeep wanted to something simple and quick as his next. It took a while for him to finalise the project he was going with and when he did, he was hopeful of getting done with it quickly and begin another. That plan didn’t quite go as he’d wished and the film was delayed for a while, but it’s now all set to release in theatres on Christmas Day.
In his promotional interviews for the film, Sudeep has been very categoric that he took up the film because he was impressed with director Vijay Kartikeyaa’s narration – a story that barely had any extra frills, especially not in terms of catering to his star status. The only deletion that Sudeep wanted was a flashback of a romantic angle, but besides that he was sold.
Explaining this further, the Kannada superstar said that what really appealed to him was the purpose of the character – Arjun Mahakshay. Given that his Max, as his character is nicknamed, is to take charge at a station only the next morning, there is a reason that he’s there and reacts a certain way to things happening around him. The explanation for what drives Max to be the way he is in the film was the clincher for Sudeep, he says.
More importantly, the actor says that Vijay Kartikeyaa’s narrative is such that it establishes an incident early on in the film, but what happens thereafter is what makes for a thrilling ride. “Until the very last shot there is a curiosity that builds and it is only at the very end that you get a full picture of the film,” he says.
Max also stars Samyukta Hornad, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sunil, Pramod Shetty, Ugramm Manju, Sukrutha Wagle, among others, while Ajaneesh Loknath is the composer. The film is being released by KRG Studios in Karnataka, with the Tamil and Telugu versions to hit theatres on December 27.
