Kiccha Sudeep breaks silence on language row: I didn't mean to start any riot or any kind of debate

Kichcha Sudeepa, who applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for calling Indian languages the spirit of "Bharatiyata," said he didn't mean to start a discussion with his remarks on Hindi. The actor got into a Twitter spat with Ajay Devgn last month over his comments that Hindi is "no longer our national language," which escalated into a bigger debate about Hindi imposition vs. preserving India's linguistic diversity.

PM Modi claimed all Indian languages are deserving of reverence during his virtual address to BJP office-bearers on Friday, a comment that stunned Sudeep.

In an interview with NDTV, the actor stated that he had no intention of inciting a brawl or a debate. It just happened without any prior planning. It was a viewpoint he expressed. It was an honour and a privilege for Sudeepa to witness the Prime Minister's delivery of particular words.

He added that it's an astounding thing to witness the PM talk this way when he makes a remark. Everybody who looks upon their language with attention and respect.

PM Modi's speech, according to the 48-year-old actor, was a "warm welcome to all languages." Sudeepa further said that he is not just talking about Kannada here; he's talking about how, with those few remarks from the Prime Minister, everyone's mother tongue has been valued today, and that is where the actor was coming from that day. Sudeepa explained that they don't just see Narendra Modi as a politician; they also see him as a leader.

Sudeep added in the interview that his remarks regarding Hindi, which drew a vehement response from Devgn on Twitter, were not directed at any language or anyone in particular.

He continued by saying that he comes from the film industry, and they don't like it when South films are referred to as pan-Indian. It has nothing to do with Hindi in particular. It is their country, and they are attempting to reach out to everyone, as cinemas have opened to various languages, and every spectator and state wishes to witness a fantastic film.

Sudeepa stated it bothered him when "some portions" were referred to as pan-India. It had nothing to do with ego or emotions in any way. The actor said that it's just that pan-India should be termed pan-India, whether it's coming from the south or the Hindi sector, as long as one is dubbing their films in other languages.

Sudeepa is recognised for his roles in South Indian films such as Sparsha, Huchcha, Nandhi, Veera Madakari, Eega, and Pailwaan, as well as Hindi films such as Phoonk, Rann, and Dabangg 3.

He is currently anticipating the release of Vikrant Rona, a 3D mystery thriller. Anup Bhandari directed the film, which will be released in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and English.
