Fans are in for a captivating story as director Siddharth P Malhotra is bringing the fascinating love story of filmmaker Kamal Amrohi and actress Meena Kumari his upcoming film, Kamal aur Meena. The film is scheduled for a 2026 release while the cast details are under wraps. However, an entertainment fan's Reddit post sparked the rumors of Kiara Advani is onboard for the role of Meena Kumari.
Is Kiara Advani playing Meena Kumari in Kamal aur Meena?
The Reddit user shared a screenshot of the video announcement of the film, Kamal aur Meena posted by Yoodlee Films on September 11 on Instagram. The speculation about Kiara Advani might play the role of Meena Kumari sparked after the post was liked by the actress. Not only this but also the eagle-eyed fan noticed that Siddharth P Malhotra recently started following the Shershaah actress on Instagram. He has also dropped comments on her posts, which further fuelled these rumors.

Sharing the screenshot, the user wrote, “Although still quite early to say but director of the Meena Kumari biopic recently started following Kiara and continues to comment on her last 3, 4 posts now. Kiara is also the only actress to like the announcement video of the movie.”
Siddharth P Malhotra announces Kamal Aur Meena
Announcing the film, the filmmaker penned a long note on his Instagram account. A part of his note read, “Kamal Aur Meena – a cinematic experience that promises to capture one of the most iconic love stories in the history of Hindi cinema. Kamal Aur Meena will bring to life the epic, real-life romance between the legendary director and screenwriter Kamal Amrohi and the celebrated actress Meena Kumari. With access to over 500 handwritten letters exchanged between Kamal Sahaab and Meenaji as well as personal journals detailing their life together, the insights and research we have in telling this story is invaluable. It’s a profound privilege to direct this incredible true story, though the responsibility is immense.”
Speaking more about it, the filmmaker said that their relationship was one of deep love and artistic collaboration, spanning over 20 years from their first meeting when she was just 18 and he was 34, from the creation to shoot and release, the legacy of Pakeezah.
He also shared that he is glad to be allowed to get a stellar team of Bhavani Iyer Kausar Munir along with Kamil Irshad and the maestro himself AR Rahman to compose and score the music of the film.
On the other hand, fashion designer Manish Malhotra has also announced a biopic focused on Meena Kumari’s life, featuring actress Kriti Sanon in the lead role. However, Mid-Day reported that the project had been delayed for unknown reasons. The movie is likely to go on floors in early 2025.
