Known is the fact that fans of Kamal Haasan consider Anbe Sivam as a special movie. The Sundar C directorial ended up as a box office failure, though when it was released in 2003. However, the film gained a lot of fans over the years and it has been celebrated by fans of other stars as well.
A popular theatre in Chennai hosted a special screening of the movie yesterday, and several cinephiles thronged to the movie halls to watch their favourite film once again. Actress Khushbu, who also happens to be Sundar's wife, took to her Twitter page to express excitement on the turn out of the audience.
She said that Anbe Sivam still remains as the favourite movie of hers and Sundar's, and that she is happy to receive love and warmth from the audience. Khushbu also went on to say how the film crashed at the box office and attained a cult status later. The movie, according to her, was way ahead of its time, and we couldn't agree more.
The performances of Kamal Haasan, Madhavan, Nasser and Santhana Bharathi among others is one of the most-raved about aspects of the film, apart from its soulful screenplay, music by Vidyasagar and cinematography by Arthur A Wilson.
Anbe Sivam marked the coming together of Kamal Haasan and Madhavan for the first time. The Pongal release clashed with a few other movies, and the winner of the festival was Vikram's Dhool.
The movie was a trendsetter in different ways, and inspired many aspiring filmmakers. Sundar C had stated a few years after the film's release that the movie changed him personally and professionally.
