Khel Khel Mein out on OTT: Netflix finally streams Akshay Kumar-starrer after a day's delay

Earlier, the Netflix website announced that Khel Khel Mein will start streaming on October 9, 2024. However, the entire day passed without the film dropping until the OTT giant announced that it would be available for viewing from midnight on October 10, 2024. Now, the Mudassar Aziz comedy-drama is finally streaming on Netflix. Khel Khel Mein definitely deserves a watch, although the film is the adaptation of the 2016 Italian film Perfect Strangers. The film features an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, and Pragya Jaiswal.

Khel Khel Mein plot overview

In Khel Khel Mein, an Indian wedding brings together three married couples, each with a unique personality, and their single friend joins them. Vartika Malik (Vaani Kapoor) is preparing to file for divorce from her husband, plastic surgeon Rishabh Malik (Akshay Kumar), who has a propensity of lying. They plan to play a game that involves the other two couples during Vartika's sister's Sangeet ceremony. Vartika lays out the ground rules for the game in Rishabh's room, where the three couples gather: everyone puts their phones on a table, and whomever gets a call or message has to tell everyone else. Even though the game starts off as pleasant, the couples are almost horrified to discover the hidden information about each other. As the game advances, it unveils more secrets about each player. Misunderstandings arise as all six couples come to terms with the fact that their real lives differ greatly from the idealised versions they present on Instagram.

When the film debuted on August 15, 2024, critics responded in a variety of ways. However, it failed to create magic on the big screen owing to its clash with Stree 2 and Vedaa.

Director Mudassar Aziz’s reflection on box office performance

Earlier, in an interview with Hindustan Times, when Aziz was asked about the underperformance of Khel Khel Mein at the box office, the filmmaker shared that his impression is somewhat clouded. In today's culture, people tend to pass judgment too quickly, and Aziz is no exception. If the main star hasn't been doing well at the box office, as a director, one can ask themselves, "Is it better to give them a holiday weekend to perform? So what if it's a clash?"
