Director Prashanth Neel’s KGF Chapter 2 is one of the biggest films of the year, not just from the South but across the country, with stars such as Yash, Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon as part of it. The film was initially scheduled for a July release but with the pandemic, this seems unlikely.
In a recent interview with The New Indian Express, the filmmaker said that the whole world was fighting the pandemic together and that takes priority over a film’s release.
“It makes sense to be upset or lose patience if there are shooting delays, artistes don’t turn up, etc… But this is not such a situation. We are part of the entertainment, and we don’t come under necessity. The world is going through a much bigger crisis. Like every individual, we are also taking care of ourselves and our families’ health, and taking all measures to ensure the virus doesn’t affect us. How can we ask people to come to theatres? It’s an extraordinary situation for everyone in the world and nobody is spared,” said the filmmaker.
Prashanth, who is also set to helm Salaar with Prabhas, said that he isn’t worried about KGF 2’s content being stale despite the delay in release. He was quoted in the article as saying that the film will be fresh at any given point of time due to its universal story. Also, it’s period setting will help in this regard, he said.
KGF: Chapter 2 is now reportedly looking at an October release. While OTTs have expressed interest, the makers haven’t yet decided on it due to the the film’s big-ticket potential and hype.
