Filmmaker Kanu Chauhan is gearing up to make a film on a Gujarati warrior, who fought to save the Somnath Temple from intruders in the 14th century. His film, titled Kesari Veer, stars Suniel Shetty, Sooraj Pancholi, and Vivek Oberoi. The director told Mid-Day that Kesari Veer's story is close to his heart. In this movie, Suniel will reportedly be seen playing the role of a 14th-century ruler. For the same, the actor had to learn horse riding and more.
Suniel Shetty is likely to play the role of Raja Vegdaji Bhil, the ruler of Dron. A source told the tabloid that the actor will opt for a unique look in Kesari Veer.
"Suniel had to brush up on his horse-riding skills and learned weaponry, like self-made spears, slings, axes, bows and arrows, knives, and swords, belonging to that time. He also learned archery, as the Bhils were skilled in that, as well as guerilla warfare. He has a unique look in the movie and sports a pagdi, angarkha, and dhoti, and carries a mustache," the source added.
As per the report, the film has a lot of action sequences that have been designed by South action director Kevin Kumar. On the other hand, the costumes have been created by Chandrakant Sonawane.
In Kesari Veer, Sooraj is expected to play the character of 16-year-old Veer Hamirji Gohil. He sacrifices his life while protecting the temple against the invasion of Zafar Khan, who is the general of Delhi Sultanate ruler, Alauddin Khilji. Veer joins forces with Vegdaji to take on the Mughal emperor in a 10-day battle.
Kanu, who is directing Kesari Veer, further told the tabloid that he has left no stone unturned to revive the ambience of that era. "We have spent more than Rs 60 crore on the movie and shot it over a continuous 120-day schedule from November 23 in Mumbai and Gujarat. Post-production work is currently underway, and we plan to release the motion poster by this month," he shared.
