It was a moment of excitement and bliss for the finest Mollywood actors who bagged the ‘Best’ title in 51st Kerala State Film Awards. Jayasurya, who won the race for his film Vellam and Anna Ben who is awarded for Kappela, sounded extremely elated after the win.
While Talking to the media after the announcement, Jayasurya rated the role in his award-winning movie as one of the challenging roles he has ever been approached for. He portrayed Murali, who is a drunkard. According to him, adapting the Kannur dialect for the character was tough, especially while speaking as a drunkard.
He further talked about the film and said it is a real story which has to be loudened, as all of us would have gone through someone like Murali in our lives. He also added that the characters are immortal, as they will be remembered forever, unlike the actor who has played it and thus the character should be credited.
It must be noted that Jayasurya has been working hard towards the bunch of versatile roles he has portrayed throughout his cinema career. From a quadriplegic in Beautiful, a man who has speech disorder in Su..Su..Sudhi Vathmeekam, an intriguing villain in Iyobinte Pusthakam to the bravest transgender person in Njan Marykutty, the actor has been it all. He won the 2019 Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his performances in Captain and Njan Marykutty and also a mention at the National Awards along with the Kerala State Government’s Special Jury Award for Su...Su..Sudhi Vathmeekam.
While coming to Anna Ben, besides being just four films old, the young actress has bagged the award for the second time, leaving everyone’s jaw dropped. Her simple, yet very complexed character Jessy in Kappela, grabbed eyeballs and won the toughest race, which had the most difficult competitors ranging to Parvathy Thiruvothu for Varthamanam, Nimisha Sajayan for The Great Indian Kitchen, and Shobhana for Varane Avashyamundu. Jessy, portrayed by Anna, touched many hearts as it was a raw and whole depiction of a naive, vulnerable yet brave small-town girl, who gets trapped by her lover.
The Best Actress was all surprised and excited while addressing the media as she revealed she has never expected the award. Despite Kappela being a small film which couldn’t run in theatres due to the pandemic, it impressed the jury and is getting accolades, added her.
Anna, who received much acclaim for her debut in the 2019 movie Kumbalangi Nights, nailed her name in the industry with the four movies she has done, and also won the Kerala State Award- Special Mention for her performance in the 2020 movie Helen. She was last seen in Sara’s, for which she received high acclaim, and she will be next seen in Naaradan, helmed by Aashiq Abu.
