The shooting of the second instalment of The Kerala Crime Files, Malayalam’s first original web series, has begun today (February 19), according to the latest update. Announcing the commencement of shooting of Kerala Crime Files Season 2, director Ahammed Khabeer posted a snap of clapboard from the sets on his social media pages, with a caption, “Filming Starts Today. Need all your Blessings. (sic)”.
Earlier, the series’ sequel was announced through an announcement on social media by director Ahammed, actors Aju Varghese, George Kora and Gouri G Kishan, who also expressed their joy over the series’ second instalment.
The crime series, starring Aju Varghese and Lal in lead roles, is a police procedural thriller based on real-life events. The first original web series in Malayalam premiered in 2023 on Disney+ Hotstar. The series revolves around a team of six policemen who are trying to solve a murder in a suburban lodge room, with just one clue - a fake address. The new season’s poster, which was revealed earlier, suggests that the film’s new investigation involves an abandoned stadium. The poster features a stadium atop a cop’s cap that hints at yet another compelling thriller from the makers of the successful web series.
In addition to Lal and Aju Varghese, Navas Vallikkunnu, Sanju Sanichen, Zhinz Shan, Sreejith Mahadevan, Ansal Ben, and Devaki Rajendran also play important roles in the web series. Cinematographer Bahul Ramesh has penned the screenplay for the crime drama, which is bankrolled by Ahammed’s production venture, Monkey Business Cinemas. Jithin Stanislaus is cranking the camera for the series, while Mahesh Bhuvanend is the editor. Hesham Abdul Wahab is the music composer for Kerala Crime Files Season 2.
For the unversed, Season 1 of the series was based on a real-life case, wherein a group of police officers were investigating the murder of a sex worker in a lodge. But the only clue they have is a forged address. The six-episode series follows the methods employed by the cops to zero in on the culprit.
The Disney+ Hotstar series is available in Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
