A few months ago, Kannada actor Dhruva Sarja was on course to have not one, but two releases in the year. He’d had Martin and KD – The Devil lined up, but the latter, directed by Prem, got delayed and will be a 2025 outing only. However, with principal photography completed and the team currently in the middle of dubbing and other post-production work, promotions have already started.
KD -The Devil, produced by KVN Productions, will begin its publicity campaign with the first song launch on December 24. Called Shiva Shiva, the song will be launched with an event, the time and venue of which will be announced on December 15. The film, with music by Arjun Janya, reportedly has 6 songs, the rights of which were sold at a record price way back in May this year.
KD – The Devil is an underworld tale set in the Bengaluru of the 1970s. As such, much of the film was shot at specially-created sets. The action-packed commercial entertainer is the first period venture for both Prem and Dhruva. The actor, who had bulked up massively for his film Martin, had to drop a lot of that mass for his role in KD.
William David, who worked on Kiccha Sudeep’s Vikrant Rona is the cinematographer of KD, which boasts an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, Reeshma Nanaiah, V Ravichandra, Ramesh Aravind, among others.
Meanwhile, Dhruva’s much-delayed Martin released in theatres for Dasara and was unanimously panned by critics and audiences. The film, which was reportedly made at a budget of around Rs 100-120 cr, is said to have recovered only a fraction of the same. Producer Uday K Mehta, though, will make another film with Dhruva. The duo was initially meant to make a film called Dubari, with Pogaru director Nanda Kishore, but that fell through, after which they proceeded to make Martin, based on a story by Dhruva’s uncle, Arjun Sarja.
