KBC 16: Amitabh Bachchan relives Zanjeer magic as he celebrates 25 years of hosting

Amitabh Bachchan has been hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati for 25 years, during which time he has kept the show lively with anecdotes and quizzed competitors while quietly offering hints. The occasion, "Gyan Ka Rajat Mahotsav," will begin this week on January 20, during the reality quiz program. Vinay Gupta, a contender from Kathu, is making history as the first contestant from his hometown to appear on KBC. He is passionately advocating for his community on the show. He tops it all off by having Bachchan deliver one of his famous lines from Zanjeer (1973).

Reciting the lines, "Jab tak baithne ko na kaha jaye, seedhi tarah khade raho. Yeh police station hai, tumhare baap ka ghar nahi. (Until you are told to sit, stand straight. This is a police station, not your father's house)," Bachchan enters an action-packed mood. He grins and reveals that he had to say this line on the first day of filming due to the thunderous clapping. A man of extraordinary talent, Pran was tremendously supportive when Big B was nervous to say these lines to him.

Written by Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, Zanjeer marked a turning point in Bachchan's career, following his breakthrough with Saat Hindustani (1969). During that period, the late Rajesh Khanna was the most famous actor in India, the veteran actor admits.

How Amitabh Bachchan got Zanjeer

"Kya aura tha, kya following thi. (What an aura it was, what a following he had.)" As a sign of positive fortune, women would scoop dirt off his automobile tyres and place it on their foreheads because of his magnetic presence. Even though Bachchan was a complete unknown, Salim-Javed came to see him and gave him the narrative. It was in a sequence from Bombay to Goa [1972] that Shatrughan Sinha hit him, according to Javed, who claimed to have seen Big B in the film. The actor had just taken a few bites off of his sandwich when he stood up. Because of this, Javed thought he might be a good fit for the lead role in Zanjeer.
