KBC 14 director opens up on his 15 year long journey with host Amitabh Bachchan

One of the most loved quiz shows in Indian television history, Kaun Banega Crorepati is gearing up to make a comeback to the silver screen this month. The new season will see Amitabh Bachchan return to his hosting duties, having been the host of the show for all but one of its seasons. KBC’s director Arun Sheshkumar recently opened up about working with Big B on the show for more than a decade.

In conversation with India Today, Sheshkumar spoke of how it was a delight to shoot with Bachchan, whom he called ‘a director's actor’. But one of the major differences between Bachchan’s films and KBC was that in the latter, fans get to see the real Bachchan and not just a character. “He(Bachchan) is as funny, as sharp, as witty, as knowledgeable...what you are watching on TV is the Amitabh Bachchan everybody knows or should know”, said Sheshkumar.

The director said that one of the challenges he faced while shooting was making sure that Bachchan’s real personality made its way on screen, rather than a character. Calling the collaboration a lot of fun, Sheshkumar spoke of how the trust between them had increased manifold during the course of their 15 year journey working on the show. He said that there was no ‘superstardom attitude’ when Bachchan worked with him, as the actor knew that Sheshkumar would make sure that he doesnt get ‘anything wrongly done by him’. Sheshkumar also added that one of the main reasons that people loved the show so much was because of Bachchan’s charisma as a host.

Kaun Banega Crorepati 14 will premiere on August 7 at 9 PM. Aamir Khan, Mary Kom, Sunil Chhetri, Major D P Singh and Mitali Madhumita will be guests on the show’s premiere episode. The show can be watched on Sony TV and will be available to stream on SonyLIV.
