The teaser of the upcoming fantasy horror movie Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer has been released on the occasion of lead actor Jayasurya's birthday. The film is directed by Rojin Thomas, the man behind the National Award-winning film Home. Kathanar also stars Anushka Shetty and is based on a priest from Kerala, Kadamattathu Kathanar who was known for possessing supernatural abilities.

The teaser shows Jayasurya as a prisoner who is held captive by church authorities, who are afraid of his sinister powers. It also shows villagers suffering for unknown reasons. The teaser, which the makers are calling a 'glimpse', ends with Kathanar (the name of Jayasurya's character), appearing in his priest attire. The eerie mood is enhanced by the visual effects and background score.

Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer to be released in 7 languages

The film is slated to be released in 7 languages worldwide, making it a pan-Indian film from Kerala. What is interesting is that the film was shot on a large modular floor spanning 40,000 sq. ft.  Kathanar made headlines for being the first Indian film to use virtual production technology. The movie is produced by Sree Gokulam Movies, known for their period films like Kayamkulam Kochunni, Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, and Pathonpatham Noottandu. Vijay Babu's Friday Films started the project, but later Sree Gokulam Movies took over the production of the film. Kathanar- The Wild Sorcerer will be released in 2024.
