Kasargold OTT release: Asif Ali’s crime thriller is streaming on this platform

Kasargold, Asif Ali’s much talked about crime thriller about gold smuggling, has finally dropped on OTT, after its theatrical release on September 15. The film is directed by Mridul Nair, who is known for films like BTech. Along with Asif, the film also features Sunny Wayne in a pivotal role. Jailer actor Vinayakan is also part of the cast, with Malavika Sreenath playing the female lead.

Netflix has bagged the digital rights of Kasargold, and the film is now available to stream on the OTT platform.

The plot and lead characters of Kasargold

The story of Kasargold revolves around two characters, Alby (Asif) and Faizal (Sunny), who are on the run after a gold consignment goes missing. Alby, who works as a gold carrier for a political leader, loses a consignment during a road accident. Meanwhile, Faizal, who has already been facing many financial problems, finds the gold. The rest of the plot centres on the chase for the lost gold.

Chasing the lost consignment, the story takes the audience through Mangaluru and Goa, showing glimpses of desperate smugglers who are willing to risk it all to pull off one last job and turn around their fortunes. Along the way, we see greedy and unscrupulous politicians and their goons, adding to the drama.

Mridul Nair on the OTT version of Kasargold

The movie had a decent run in the theatres, but was criticised for its lacklustre script. In an interview with OTTplay, the director expressed his dissatisfaction with the theatrical version of the thriller that was released in September. Mridul lamented the fact that he had to cut out scenes that were essential in creating an emotional connection with the characters.

Highlights of the crime thriller

Kasargold is alluring because of the pace at which the incidents happen in the story. The film gives more importance to style than substance, and it is visible in the editing and background score. The performances of the actors as well as the work done by the technical department are top-notch in this relentlessly paced action thriller.
