Karudan: Vetrimaaran's next movie with Soori, Unni Mukundan goes on the floor

Actor Soori's next project titled Karudan went on the floors on Monday, following a customary puja in Kumbakonam. While the screenplay is penned by filmmaker Vetrimaaran, it will be helmed by R. S. Durai Senthilkumar.

Besides Soori, Karudan will also star actors M Sasikumar and Unni Mukundan in the lead roles. Music maestro Yuvan Shankar Raja is on board as the movie's composer.

While details about the movie's plot and the remaining cast and crew remain scarce, Karudan is said to be set against the backdrop of Madurai. While the movie is written for the big screen by Vetrimaaran, Karudan will be nothing like his previous directorial outing Viduthalai Part 1.

Karudan is helemed by Durai Senthilkumar

Karudan is not the first collaboration between Durai Senthilkumar and Vetrimaaran. The duo had previously collaborated on Kodi. While Senthilkumar helmed the 2016 political drama, Vetrimaaran had bankrolled it.

Senthilkumar was also credited as co-writer for Vetrimaaran's political thriller Viduthalai Part 1. He made his directorial debut with Ethir Neechal in 2013. Starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, the movie was a smash hit at the box office. He has Kaaki Sattai, Kodi and Pattas in his directorial credits.

Soori's transition from comedian to a hero is complete

After playing a hero's sidekick for over two decades, Soori has graduated to play lead roles. He peaked as a comedian in Tamil cinema with his performance in the 2009 rural drama Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu. He soon became one of the sought-after comedy actors and shared screen space with all the leading stars of Tamil cinema.

Soori turned a corner in their career by essaying the lead role in Viduthalai Part 1. He played the role of an honest but low-ranking police officer, whose torn between his professional obligations and moral values.

Soori recently completed shooting for Viduthalai Part 2, which is expected to hit the screens soon.
