Mani Ratnam's much-awaited magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan hit screens on September 30 to packed cinema halls. The film is an adapatation of Kalki's five-part novel of the same name, which was penned during the 1950s. Karthi plays Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan in the film, a spy and commander of the Chola army, who witnesses the many characters in the novel on his journey. Karthi's performance in the film has been appreciated by many.

The actor, who changed his social media handle's name to His Highness Vanthiyathevan, issued a statement today expressing his gratitude being part of the historic film. He wrote he cannot sum up his feelings in words and thanked each and every member of the team. In a long statement, he wrote, "Words cannot express the immense gratitude I feel for this experience and magnificent journey as Vanthiyathevan. First and foremost a big salute and all respects to Amarar Kalki for creating this magical epic Ponniyin Selvan for all of us. A million thanks to our Mani sir for pursuing it all these years and crafting this unforgettable masterpiece."

He also thanked the technical team of the film. "To Ravi Varman sir for being the driving force on sets and giving us never seen before stunning visuals. To our treasure AR Rahman sir for making us ecstatic with his music. To Sreekar Prasad sir for bringing out the spirit of Kalki sir's writing that has been immortalised through the awesome dialogues and oneliners penned by Jeyamohan sir. Finally, dear fans, friends and cinema lovers who have showered us with such love and pride. Its so overwhelming to receive all your love (sic)."

The actor had also stated earlier that he was honoured to be part of the film. He had tweeted, "A Never before cinematic experience. Absolutely stunning presentation by #ManiRatnam sir, @arrahman sir, @dop_ravivarman sir, @sreekar_prasad sir, Tharani sir and the sound department. Honoured to be a part of this magnum opus @LycaProductions . Our pride #PonniyinSelvan. #PS1 (sic)."
