It has been 24 years since one of the most iconic movies of Bollywood, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, was theatrically released. This movie was directed by ace filmmaker Karan Johar and this year, the movie is going to mark its 25th anniversary.
KKHH, as referred by fans of the movie, featured megastar Shah Rukh Khan alongside Kajol and Rani Mukerji in key roles.
Ahead of its 25th anniversary celebrations, Karan has unexpectedly-yet-heavily criticized his own creation. Karan even went ahead and said that Rahul as a character in the movie indulged in all sorts of wrongdoings. Interestingly, Rahul’s character in the film is played by megastar Shah Rukh Khan.
At an event in Mumbai recently, Karan Johar arrived to promote his upcoming directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. While interacting with the audience present, Karan Johar talked about his past works in great depth. He said, “I feel like I have grown as an individual, The first film that I made, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I firmly believe that the gender politics of that film was all wrong. It is propagating incorrect gender politics, there is a lot of surfacesness in that film. Of course, there is nostalgia so you love it, but you don’t scratch the surface of the film and see that what Rahul is doing is actually not what I would want all the Rahuls in the audience, or all the boys in general, to do.”
Karan Johar even mentioned that Rahul was contradicting his statements throughout the film. “He said, Hum ek bar pyaar karte hai (We fall in love once), but he got in love twice. He said Hum ek bar shaadi karte hai (We marry once), but he got married twice. He was contradicting himself throughout the film,” Karan opines.
Karan Johar presses that he does not wish to repeat his mistake ever again. He also asserted that his upcoming movie, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles, will fare well at the box office. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani will be released on July 28.
