The Netflix premiere of Nadaaniyan on March 7 garnered public attention, albeit for unfavourable reasons. Khushi Kapoor, daughter of Boney Kapoor and Sridevi, and Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, were the subjects of much criticism for their roles in the film. Many people on the internet mocked the film, its plot, and the acting abilities of the film's star kids. Karan Johar, who produced the film with Dharmatic Entertainment, has finally spoken out against the film's detractors. During the recent trailer launch event for the Punjabi film Akaal, the producer took issue with the language used to disparage the film.

Karan Johar defends the film and its cast

"I want to kick this film," one critic remarked, he said. These people are really bothering him. Everything related to the industry, trolls, opinion makers, and social criticism is fine with him; opinions are welcome here. However, the makers' "Nadaaniyan," "Gustakhiyaan," and "Gehraiyaan" are similar. The review becomes a reflection of the reviewer rather than the film when they write such things.

According to Johar, those who are so quick to criticise and attack fail to realise that their targets could be someone's own children. He shared that these intellectual movie buffs should cultivate a sensitive side, as no one enjoys physical aggression. Fencing is aggressiveness and this involves acts of physical aggression. If one does not tolerate physical force, words can cause just as much harm. For being violent, one ought to face condemnation.

Industry voices support for the young actors

Others who have spoken out in support of the star kids, like Hansal Mehta, Vikram Bhatt, and Sonu Sood, have also said that the audience is being harsh to them. Mehta believes that criticising the movie is in bad taste. To ETimes, the filmmaker expressed his concern that the young actors may be experiencing trauma.

Vikram Bhatt praised Ibrahim's father, Saif Ali Khan, also saying he couldn't find a single flaw in the newcomer's performance. He likes both Khushi and Ibrahim, the lead actors; therefore, he doesn't get the online harassment that the film is getting. Whether or not the film is excellent is irrelevant; what matters is that Ibrahim was enjoyable. There is a debate about nepotism, and to win, one must be exceptional, which is unfair to newcomers since this film is his debut.

Bhatt asked on Galatta, Who had a breakout performance in their debut film?' while adding that one can tell he knows acting just by seeing him on screen. The filmmaker is sad about this whole thing.

Nadaaniyan also marks the directorial debut of Shauna Gautam.
