Karan Johar returns to the director’s seat with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani

After a gap of five years, Karan Johar is set to direct his next feature film. The filmmaker shared a motion poster of his upcoming movie Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani that stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.

Today, KJo shared the poster of the film on Instagram and revealed that it’s not going to be a cliched love story. “Yes, it's a love story, but no - it's not your regular love story. Rocky and Rani are going to redefine your usual love stories to take you on a journey!" the post read. The rest of the cast will be announced soon.

Before that, the director-producer announced the film along with a motion poster and wrote, “Thrilled to get behind the lens with my favourite people in front of it! Presenting Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, headlined by none other than Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan & Sumit Roy.” Karan also mentioned that the film will release in 2022.

While on Monday, the director shared a special video on his Instagram and said that this is the beginning of a new journey and his way back home. He also mentioned that it's time to create some "eternal love stories from behind the lens".

Karan’s last feature film as a director was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that had Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan with Shah Rukh Khan in a special appearance. Since then, the filmmaker has directed two segments for the Netflix anthologies, Lust Stories and Ghost Stories.

Before the pandemic, the filmmaker was set for his highly-anticipated period drama film Takht, which will have Ranveer, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar.
