Karan Johar is one of the most successful filmmakers in Bollywood. This year, he is on cloud nine as he is celebrating 25 years as a filmmaker, especially with his recent directorial, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
This movie was released just four days ago and has so far minted over Rs 50 crores at the box office. Clearly, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is a successful project of the filmmaker.
Talking about the success of the film on Monday, Karan in an interview with Film Companion pressed on the fact that he was inspired by late filmmaker Yash Chopra and present-day filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and their works, which is why his latest project is a success at the box office.
Karan opined, “Firstly, there are two homages I have paid in the film. First is to (late filmmaker) Yash Chopra via the song Tum Kya Mile. I wanted to create a Yash Chopra snow-jacket-sarees song. We say it is inspiration, let me be more honest. I say it is a copy. I copied a Yash Chopra song.”
“Likewise, I copied a Sanjay Leela Bhansali song. My brief to my team was let’s do a Sanjay Leela Bhansali song. I wanted to pay homage. We all know, with all love and respect, that it (Dhindora Baje Re) is a copy. We know it is a copy of his work. It is very much Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s aesthetic. I’ve copied his beautiful aesthetic. I’m very happy to say it and put it on record. But the sequences of the song are much beyond that. Of course, I was happy to see the set be a ‘Bhansali-tic',” added Karan.
