Karan Johar: None of my film has received critical acclaim like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani

Karan Johar has often been bashed in the recent times. However, the filmmaker has bounced back with his latest release, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani. Featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, this movie has received immense love at the Box Office.

Karan is overwhelmed and feels that none of his films have been as acclaimed as this one. “There's been just love it. I can't explain it. I'm kind of like, ‘Oh, my God!’, and I don't think a single film of mine has got this kind of critical acclaim,” he told Bollywood Hungama.

He adds that everyone seeks critical validation. Thus, seeing the reviews for his film made him very happy.

Even though Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani was not made with the intent of sharing a message, it has been successful in addressing the toxic masculinity in the form of a North Indian boy, played by Ranveer. Karan did not want to make the film preachy and thus, his sole focus wasn’t on the particular scene.

While Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani has been receiving a lot of love, there are many movies which Karan directed, where he was bashed ruthlessly. The films are Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

“Both had polarized opinions. It went from extreme love to disdain, and for various reasons. There was a moral policing on one and on the other one, there was a divided house about the last act of the film,” the filmmaker shared.

The movie features Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Churni Ganguly in its cast. It was officially released in cinemas on July 28, 2023.
