By now, there must hardly be anyone who has not heard or seen the blockbuster cult film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. The film did wonders to everyone associated with it. The film catapulted the careers of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, besides firmly establishing the career of Rani Mukerji. The one person who really benefitted by the film was its (debutante) director Karan Johar.

In an interview with Mid Day, Karan Johar stated that, after the release of the film, he, immediately flew to London with his mother and father. And from there, when he had called up Aditya Chopra to check the response to his film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, the latter responded stating that his film was a blockbuster all over. Hearing this, Karan Johar came back to his anxiously waiting parents to tell them the good news about the film.

Amidst the conversation, Karan Johar recalled an extremely interesting incident which had happened post the release of the film. Karan Johar said that he had started premature greying because of his father, who too, had premature greying. And when Karan Johar’s mother got to know that their film was a huge blockbuster, his mother told him to cover his grey hair by dyeing it. Karan Johar termed this as his mother’s emotional reaction to his film being a blockbuster.

Karan continued stating, he was not aware that a person should either dye their hair in light brown or medium brown and not all-black. And because of this, he asked the salon guy to dye his hair black, which resulted in not so favourable look of Karan Johar, which also shocked his mother. Karan added that, since there was no redemption from black, one had to wait for the black colour to fade away, which is what he had done at that time. And for the 25 odd days during which he had waited for the colour to fade away, he had started wearing a cap, in order to avoid showing the world his jet-black colour dyed hair!

Karan Johar also added in the same interview that, since there were no photographers (read ‘paparazzi’) around at that time, there was no ‘archival evidence’ to his ‘cap-look’ of that time!
