A few days before Rishab Shetty’s Kantara released in theatres, there was a fan-made poster of the film for a Tulu version. The poster came at a time when Rishab said that he was releasing Kantara in Kannada only with English subtitles. He added that there were dialogues in Tulu and a folk song as well, but did not confirm whether he would bring out a full version in the Tulunadu language. When Rishab then went ahead and re-tweeted the poster, it gave fans hope that their request would be heeded after all.
Well, he didn’t do it immediately, but the latest is that work on dubbing the film in Tulu is ongoing. Rishab, who was looking at dubbing his film in other languages only closer to its OTT debut, had to advance all his plans and bring out the Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam versions. Most of the film’s cast who hail from the region have already begun dubbing for their portions, states a Times of India report.
Fans, of course, are beyond thrilled and believe that the Tulu version will feel even more authentic than Kannada. “Tulu version will be more original, vibrant and vigorous. Hope the audience will have one more opportunity to see the movie once again,” wrote Sudarshan Shetty, while another user, Rohith, added, “Finally the much awaited #Kantara movie is being dubbed in #tulu. Thank you @shetty_rishab and @hombalefilms for considering our demand. Can't wait to see it in theatre. #KantaraInTulu.”
Meanwhile, even as Kantara continues its dream run at the Karnataka box office, the film has also got off to a good start in north India, where the Hindi version released in 2500+ screens. Today, the Telugu version is releasing in 400+ screens, while Tamil follows tomorrow. The Malayalam version will be out on October 20.
