Kantara is now officially the second highest-grossing film in the history of Kannada cinema. Having recently gone past K.G.F: Chapter 1 in terms of worldwide collections, Rishab Shetty’s film now has newer records in sight as it makes significant strides towards the Rs. 300 crore mark. And considering the film's budget, which is rumoured to be between Rs. 12 and Rs. 15 crores, the margin of the profits makes it one of the biggest commercial successes of all time.

And yet, many await the release of Kantara on OTT and tabloid speculations have been rife for quite some time regarding the exact release date. Many reports claimed that the film will be out on November 4, suggesting that a 30-day deal was in place with the digital partner Amazon Prime, but the makers recently took to social media to quash all the rumours. “Wrong News! We will let you know when it is coming but certainly not November 4th,” wrote Hombale Films executive producer and distributor Karthik Gowda to in turn reveal that with Kantara still performing tremendously well at the box office, an immediate OTT release is perhaps not warranted yet.

One can certainly surmise that the team of Kantara is compelled to renew the OTT strategy and the film’s unprecedented success in cinema halls could well be the main reason behind this. The film’s theatrical run is far from over and with the both Hindi and Telugu versions sustaining equally well as the original Kannada version, fans might have to wait a bit longer before Kantara makes its grand OTT debut.

Along with the commercial exploits, Kantara also owns the feat of recording the highest number of footfalls in all of Karnataka. As the most-watched Kannada film of all time (beating KGF 2 in the pursuits), Kantara had reportedly more than 77 lakh tickets as of October 25 and is still great guns despite the influx of releases.
