Kantara Hindi has emerged as a clear box winner over the past two weeks and is currently showing no signs of stopping. The dubbed version released in theatres on October 14 and has managed to collect close to Rs. 40 crores in its 15-day theatrical run to become the eighth highest-grossing south Indian film in Hindi. Rishab Shetty's adventure drama recently went passed Karthikeya 2 to claim its new position and is currently only behind KGF: Chapter 1.
According to the latest trade reports, Kantara Hindi closed the second-week domestic box office at Rs. 31.7 crores to go past Karthikeya 2 Hindi (Rs. 31.5 crores). The Kannada film produced by Hombale Films is reported to have yielded good results over the past two days to take the total tally to Rs. 38.50 crores (net) and seems very placed to cross the Rs. 50 crores mark in the next few days. This puts the lifetime collections of KGF 1 (Hindi) at arm's reach for Kantara Hindi and one could expect the latter to soon beat the first instalment of the Rocky Bhai saga. K.G.F: Chapter 1 has collected Rs. 44.42 crores (net) in its lifetime.
Reportedly made at a budget of Rs. 15 crores, Kantara has become one of the biggest commercial successes of all time by grossing over Rs. 250 crores worldwide so far. The Hindi version, along with the Telugu counterpart, has been in a league of its own and now joins the elite list of highest-grossing South Indian films that are dubbed and released in Hindi. The list is topped by Baahubali: The Conclusion with Rs. 511 crores followed by KGF 2 with Rs. 435.23 crores. Kantara Hindi has been distributed by Anil Thadani's AA Films.
The success of the Hindi dubbed version is particularly special because the film has to contend with several Bollywood big releases such as Vikram Vedha, Ram Setu, Thank God, Doctor G, and the Hindi version of Ponniyin Selvan 1. Thanks to the unique setting of Kantara and the rich folklore it attempts to explore, the audiences and critics have showered praise on the quality and finesse of the film with Rishab Shetty's performance, especially, taking away most of the glory. Following this thumping success in other languages, Rishab is said to have been offered meaty roles by big productions but the actor-director recently shared that he is keen on remaining associated with Kannada cinema.
