The success of his latest movie Kannur Squad speaks of his talents as a producer in picking the right scripts, that do justice to the wonderful actor in him, while appealing to a wider audience as well.
Kannur Squad received a soft launch worldwide last week. There were no houseful morning shows or early morning fan celebrations akin to a Superstar Rajinikanth movie. But, soon after the first show, things started to change for Kannur Squad. The glowing reviews and a terrific word of mouth began to draw crowds to cinemas across the state. The movie's screen count and shows have also gone up and it has been shifted to bigger screens across multiplexes in the state.
Kannur Squad box office collection so far
Not just in Kerala, the movie is also doing fairly well in Karnataka. The movie is expected to consolidate its box office gains on Monday on the account of the holiday for the Gandhi Jayanthi. The movie is also doing equally well overseas.
According to reports, in its first four days, Kannur Squad earned about Rs 15 crore domestically. The film has earned over Rs 13 crore from the overseas market, taking its four-day collection to Rs 28 crore. The film had an excellent first Sunday in Kerala by earning more than Rs 4.5 crore in ticket sales.
Mammootty's production ventures
Kannur Squad is the third movie to roll out from Mammootty Kampany after Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Rorschach. Besides their commercial success, all these movies have also garnered widespread critical acclaim, adding to Mammootty's ever-growing stardom.
Written by Muhammed Shafi and Rony David, Roby Varghese Raj has helmed Kannur Squad. It's an investigative thriller, which takes inspiration from real-life incidents. Besides Mammootty, the movie also stars Vijayaraghavan, Kishore, Rony David Raj, Shabareesh Varma and Azees Nedumangad.
